In 2022, Mike Race and her husband bought a home in picturesque Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Embarking on a new future together, their dreams were soon torn apart. Less than a year after closing, they learned that the city had plans for a new road project and would be exercising its rights to eminent domain. The city moved to bulldoze Mika’s house and take over the land. Ultimately, the house was indeed bulldozed but the Race’s were forced to keep paying the mortgage.    As they investigated the takeover, a local scandal was revealed, and the Race’s filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Pigeon Forge and its officials.    Eminent domain gives the government the right to seize any land and property - residential or commercial - for its purposes. Initially limited in scope, the Supreme Court widened the governement’s ability to take over any property in a controversial landmark 2005 decision, Kelo v.
