Banality is the whole point of life. Discover golden nuggets in banality with us. We are Nepalese immigrants living in the US, immigrated to the US for graduate school and latched ourselves into this hodgepodge of a society. Our story is quite trivial, hence the name Banal. The attention economy is not conducive to mundane experiences of people, but we feel quite the opposite. We (as in you the reader and us the hosts) heard same old stories growing up, had similar trails and tribulations. Most importantly, we are shaped by a set of common, not so interesting experiences but somehow we are oblivious to the fact these prosaic endeavors are what matter the most in life. To that end, discovering and highlighting golden nuggets in intuitively uninspiring stories of people is the whole point of this little experiment of ours. We encourage you to engage with us and live vicariously through our episodes.

The Engineer: Civil Engineering Career in the US (Ft. Swastik Bhandari, PE)

Hello and Namaste,

Wishing a happy Tihar to all of you.

This week, we present a conversation with Swastik Bhandari, a Project Consultant at Civil and Environmental Consultants. Swastik got his master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on water resources from southern Illinois university Carbondale and is a professional engineer working as a consultant. In this episode, we discuss ins and outs of Civil engineering career in the US from Swastik's point of view, we hope you will enjoy it.

We start the conversation with chitchat about football and begin by introducing Swastik's job description. We talk about many aspects of civil engineering and career in the US. Probably the most informative nugget in this episode is about the fundamentals of engineering and the professional engineering certification that almost every civil engineering graduate in the US takes. While it is not mandatory, Swastik explains how having these certifications helped him with his career.

All in all, this was a good conversation with a lot of interesting informative nuggets, and by our character a conversation about living as ex-pats on foreign soil. Hope you will enjoy it. Thanks
