Banality is the whole point of life. Discover golden nuggets in banality with us. We are Nepalese immigrants living in the US, immigrated to the US for graduate school and latched ourselves into this hodgepodge of a society. Our story is quite trivial, hence the name Banal. The attention economy is not conducive to mundane experiences of people, but we feel quite the opposite. We (as in you the reader and us the hosts) heard same old stories growing up, had similar trails and tribulations. Most importantly, we are shaped by a set of common, not so interesting experiences but somehow we are oblivious to the fact these prosaic endeavors are what matter the most in life. To that end, discovering and highlighting golden nuggets in intuitively uninspiring stories of people is the whole point of this little experiment of ours. We encourage you to engage with us and live vicariously through our episodes.

IOE Diaries I - A Professor's View
Institute of Engineering (IOE) is one of the premier engineering institutes of our country. For this episode of the podcast, we have a conversation with Prof. Dr. Mahesh Chandra Luitel (MCL). Dr. Luitel is a professor of mechanical engineering at Central (Pulchowk) Campus of IOE. He received his diploma and bachelor in engineering from IOE central campus, masters degree from IIT Kanpur and his doctorate from IOE central campus. Dr. Luitel has been involved in teaching and learning with IOE for more than 3 decades and in a sense has overseen the evolution of the institute of engineering as it stands today.Teaching/Learning engineering under various constraints is a challenging task and there are multiple hindrances that results in an environment not most conducive to educational excellence. But, how did it all start? How does the situation today compare with the past? What are some low hanging fruits that we are not even pursuing? Follow along the episode to find out more.We also discuss many avenues of teaching/research and lack thereof in IOE. Additionally, we discuss more avenues of potential collaboration with other institutes and what can be done at personal level to buck the system and get through the noise that derails the day to day progress of education in Nepal. This was a positive and insightful conversation for us and we are really thankful to Prof. Luitel for his time. Hopefully you will enjoy the episode. Cheers !!Further details is available at our website.Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
