Banality is the whole point of life. Discover golden nuggets in banality with us. We are Nepalese immigrants living in the US, immigrated to the US for graduate school and latched ourselves into this hodgepodge of a society. Our story is quite trivial, hence the name Banal. The attention economy is not conducive to mundane experiences of people, but we feel quite the opposite. We (as in you the reader and us the hosts) heard same old stories growing up, had similar trails and tribulations. Most importantly, we are shaped by a set of common, not so interesting experiences but somehow we are oblivious to the fact these prosaic endeavors are what matter the most in life. To that end, discovering and highlighting golden nuggets in intuitively uninspiring stories of people is the whole point of this little experiment of ours. We encourage you to engage with us and live vicariously through our episodes.

Entangled: The INs and OUTs of Quantum Computing (Ft. YP Kandel)

This episode is a fun and interesting conversation with Mr. Yadav Prasad Kandel, a PhD candidate at the university of Rochester. Yadav’s research is in Quantum Computing and we dive into some aspects of his research as well as quantum computing as a whole in this episode. Yadav can be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) when it comes to quantum computing and we have many of our questions answered in the episode.

We start the episode by discussing the University of Rochester and Nepalese population in the University of Rochester. Then we dive into quantum computing, the overall research domain and current state of the art in quantum quantum computing. With the recent declaration of quantum supremacy by Google as well as research from big companies and Universities, the domain has evolved a lot in the recent decades and according to Yadav, we are in the vacuum tube stages of quantum computers.

We also discuss various application domains in which the power of quantum computers can be harnessed like drug discovery, cryptography etc.. among others. So, what are the different application domains of quantum computing? Follow along the episode to find more.

We also discuss certain aspects of education in Nepal, by habit if you will. What was studying physics in Nepal like, in which Yadav was a gold medalist. There are many aspects to criticize the Nepalese education system, but Yadav was such a positive force and his insights were unique and productive. Follow along the episode to find out more.

All in all, we found this conversation to be really valuable and we hope it brings the same level of utility to you. Thanks.
