Lucy’s creates abstract figurative paintings that look into the representation of the female body. The idea of looking at the body in its everyday form, removing of the sexualisation and pornographic connotations seen throughout art history when representing the female form. She starts all her paintings by working from a charcoal sketch and then builds up with oil paint, however she likes to keep the charcoal present. It is the anchor into her work. To a ire the preservation of the rich fleshy tones, Lucy will work on multiple pieces at once. When talking about colour lucy’s refers to her fleshy colour palette as being more masculine in its deep rich tones and her muscular mark making. She also uses a lot of blue within her work that is a reference to her experience of panic attacks and how she used to cope with them through looking at the colour blue. The colour blue is now incredibly rich within her consciousness. Follow lucy to keep up to date with all her projects and latest works at @c.lucy.r.whitehead !
