
Finally, we all deserve distance. A moment to put ourselves first. Detachment is a sincere commitment to yourself when people around you are overwhelming. Some forms of detachment were already embedded in us since our childhood years. It might become a form of trauma response from all the toxic attachments we have around people. Learning to channel detachment not just a trauma response, but a form of self-care, is one of the ways to distance ourselves without developing maladaptive behaviors. Practicing detachment is not something to feel sorry about when it helps us recover and heal.
