In this episode, we explore the devastating flood that hit Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, in early September 2024. Maiduguri, already known for its challenges with insurgency, faced a new crisis when the collapse of the Alau Dam triggered severe flooding. This disaster displaced hundreds of thousands of people, destroyed homes, and overwhelmed the city’s infrastructure.
To help us understand the complexities of the situation, I’m joined by Edeh Amara Virginia and Ishaku Ibrahim Balami, two individuals who have been supporting flood victims on the ground.
Tune in to hear their firsthand accounts and learn about the ongoing efforts to support affected communities in Maiduguri.
