What you consider an acne bump and call a pimple or a zit—well, dermatologists term these papules, pustules and cysts! A papule is essentially a scientific description of what bumps look like on skin. While papules are most commonly found in acne they can also occur in eczema, insect bites, allergies as well as other forms of dermatitis. Along the way, you may also have heard of pustules—well, a pustule is a bump too.
