On today’s episode, I have Atomic Thorson on the show to discuss her personal and inspiring story, and dive into some interesting research! As an athlete, Atomic overcame a dependence on endorphins from exercise, which is an experience that many other athletes experience, but is not discussed enough. After sharing her story, we discuss some of the research about the mechanisms that explain how individuals become dependent on endorphins. From rat studies to human research, we discuss some of the functions and outcomes of exercise addiction, how it relates to underfueling, and how to recover from this cycle.
