Hello all you Cinema Lovers! Welcome back to "That Ol' Gay Classic Cinema"!
To continue with "Spooky season" I wanted to give light to one of our favorite monsters of cinema, Dracula! Based in part on Bram Stoker's novel, starring Bela Lugosi & Dwight Frye.
Join Joseph Federico & I as we discuss how the character of Dracula and the themes of vampirism resonate with the queer community, including the ideas of immortality, control, and the "dark" aspects of queer identity and experience. They explore the coded queer relationship between Dracula and Renfield.
Listen as we discuss how the portrayal of vampires has evolved over time, from the 1931 Dracula to more modern interpretations like Interview with the Vampire. We also note how these different iterations allow for deeper exploration of queer themes and experiences.
