Episode 2: Tell Me About Semiconductor Manufacturing in Taiwan

On episode two of Tell Me About East Asia, we bring you a presentation from CEAS' first virtual roundtable on Semiconductor Manufacturing: Opportunities and Challenges to the US and Beyond. Dr. James Lin of the University of Washington will discuss TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer. Based in Taiwan, TSMC plays a major role in Taiwan’s economy, shapes the country’s geopolitical situation, and influences the island’s environment.

Dr. Lin is an Assistant Professor of International Studies at the University of Washington. He received his PhD in History from University of California, Berkeley, in 2017. His upcoming book, from the University of California Press, examines the history of Taiwan’s agrarian development from the early 20th century to its Cold War missions to Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

This roundtable was co-sponsored by Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona, the East Asian Studies Center at the Ohio State University, and the UNESCO Chairs Program.

We will have more from this roundtable on our upcoming episodes. For more information about this podcast please visit our website.
