On Lifelong Learning | Prof. Hava Siegelmann

Hava Siegelmann is Provost Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and for her groundbreaking work at DARPA, the research and development agency of the U.S Department of Defense, she is a recipient of The Meritorious Public Service Medal – one of the highest honors that the U.S army can bestow upon a private citizen. She truly is a world-renowned AI pioneer, and it all started at the Technion, where she studied computer science for her BA.

Throughout a career spanning decades and continents, she’s been on the front lines of innovation in AI, neural networks, and hypercomputation or super-Turing; and in a moment, you’ll hear her talk about things like so-called ‘catastrophic forgetting’ in very smart machines; how robots can help rehabilitate injured soldiers; and even a little bit about baseball.

Professor Siegelmann also tells us about her work in defending Israel and fighting antisemitism at the academic level, something she’s been very vocal about long before the current war, but has become an even bigger part of her professional life since October seventh.
