Camp Jened fueled a fire inside some young disabled revolutionaries and inspired a passion to fight for equal rights and fair legislation.
Welcome, Strangers
This week, The Crew goes back to the early 1970s to the days before the Americans With Disabilities Act was put into law, and long before it was enforced, and looked into a wonderful, hippy-led summer camp called Camp Jened, designed for teens with disabilities and, for some, was their first taste of being treated like the unique wonderful human beings they were - and not just seen as a handicap. The experience at Camp Jened drove some of these campers to grow into hard-hitting activists in the disability rights movement.
Jeff is joined by Lady Katy, King James, Matty Boom Blatty, and we welcome special guest Andrew Gurza, an award-winning disability awareness consultant and the host of the Disability After Dark podcast to discuss the 2020 documentary film titled Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution.
