Talking to Tina - The Tales Behind T.M. Payne

Talking To Tina: The Tales behind T.M Payne is an intimate discussion as Tina, now known as crime / thriller author T.M Payne, looks back on the roles that she’s had and how they’ve contributed to her written work.

From a store detective in the early 1990s to a case investigator for the police in a Domestic Violence Unit up until 2019, Tina has some stories to tell - and not all of them have happy endings. From being held at knife point, asking a woman - politely - to hand over the frozen chicken she was trying to smuggle from the store under her skirt, to being handcuffed to the UK’s worst sexual predator and standing up in court on behalf of high risk domestic violence victims.

The author of LONG TIME DEAD, THIS ENDS NOW and the latest in the Detective Sheridan Holler series PLAY WITH FIRE, details how her unique experience brings colour to her characters and careful consideration to her crimes.

Episode One: The Store Detective

This is Talking to Tina: The Tales Behind T.M. Payne, where I have the absolute pleasure to give you the behind the scenes on one of Amazon’s most exciting crime and thriller authors. We’re recording this podcast in the run up to publication of book three; Play With Fire - but for those who are new to T.M Payne’s books you can start with Long Time Dead, and follow up with This Ends Now. All are brilliant, excellent reads following my new favourite Detective duo.

Tina is the perfect person to be writing these books because she actually has lived experience. Tina’s worked within the criminal justice service for eighteen years and each individual role she’s had has contributed to the written words on the page, from being a store detective, to working with the victims of Domestic Violence. As someone who reads a lot of crime fiction, I love the detail that Tina’s woven in and the ‘showing not telling’ of the realities of police work.

This is episode one, where you’ll meet Tina for the first time, and get to hear about her experiences as an in-store detective, in the '90s.
