Hopping on to do a quick run down on human breast milk (HBM) composition! In this mini episode, I give a basic overview of what's in HBM and part of what makes it so powerful. I also touch briefly on the makeup of colostrum, why it's so important to newborns, and why moms might feel like they don't have enough of it.
Tune in next week for a conversation with Stephanie Wong (Lovely Littles Therapy), a pediatric occupational therapist and IBCLC. We discuss her holistic, whole body approach to tongue tie treatments, break down why after care is so daunting, and how her approach to support can help parents feel a little less overwhelmed. You won't want to miss this one.

Today we're diving into a somewhat controversial topic- oral restrictions, i.e. tongue ties, lip ties, etc. My guest, Haley Murphy, is a mom of three who dealt with ties in her two oldest children. She shares about her experience of becoming a first time mom while figuring out how to feed a baby with oral restrictions and how her approach changed with each baby. We also touch on the importance of seeking support before things get overwhelming (no harm in getting an evaluation!). Haley and I go way back (like 1991), so if you hear us talking over each other...that's because we've been doing it for over 34 years, haha.

We covered a lot on Tuesday, so join me for a deep dive into some of those topics! Today I cover infant weight loss, supplemental nursing systems, returning to work and maintaining milk supply, pumping strategies, how much milk babies really need, and how to choose a formula for supplementation. This episode is all about understanding the WHY behind what happens, feeling confident in your feeding choices, and knowing when to seek support from your trusted providers.
Tune in next week to hear my interview with Haley Murphy- Galveston mom of 3 who dealt with tongue ties with her first two babies! Haley is my oldest friend, we've literally known each other since we were babies, so it was so fun getting to dig into her experience in feeding her babies in this way.

I'm so excited to share this conversation with Holly Tate (@hollyhalltate) with you guys! She shares so much insight into the experience of a Type A, plan loving gal turned busy working mom. Holly breaks down exactly how she managed to pump on the go (wearables in the airport and all!) and gives us all the helpful details. She also shares her unexpected journey to becoming a mother, which I know is so relatable to many, including myself. Thank you so much, Holly!!

Today I sit down with Dr. Victoria Mitre, mom and pediatrician, to discuss her experience with oversupply, how her perspective on breastfeeding has changed since becoming a mom, and just how gratifying and humbling it is to sit back and admire all the work we do as parents. We also touch on the microbiome a little bit, so y'all know I was fan girling for that.

There's definitely more that I could expand upon, but we'd be here all day if I did that. Today, I tackle three topics brought up during my interview with Julia- lactogenesis (the process of milk production, it's cooler than you think), colostrum harvesting, and donor milk.
Have more questions? Hit me up and I'll address them on next week's follow up!

Tune in next week for my interview with Dr. Victoria Metre, local mom and pediatrician. We chat about her experience with oversupply, her baby's milk protein allergy, and just how amazing it is to reflect on how we fully built that baby's body and now our bodies are continuing to fuel it's growth and development. We're such powerful creatures!!!

I asked my cool, child-free (for now?) sisters to give me feedback on the first episode...and boy did they deliver on the questions, haha. I sat down just me and the mic to answer their questions about nipple shields, tandem feeding, the "breastraunt", and more. Listen as I break down all the technical stuff from my discussion from Episode 1 with Libby Miranda.
