Roughly 15 years ago a friend gave me some great advice. I was starting a new job and I was a little nervous about the change. My friend looked me in the eyes and said, “Announce your presence with authority!” He didn’t explain himself. He just said the words and we went our separate ways. I thought the phrase sounded awesome and very powerful, but in truth, I didn’t really understand what he meant. He just laid it out there and left it to me to figure it out. Obviously, this advice was given in the context of me starting my new job, but I wasn’t really sure how it applied.
