The Edmonton Tornado (1987) | One of Canada's Deadliest Storms
Episode 37 - On the afternoon of July 31, 1987, the city of Edmonton, Alberta, was struck by a sudden natural disaster. An exceptionally powerful tornado tore through the eastern edge of the city leaving behind a path of destruction. This was one of the deadliest tornadoes in Canadian history injuring many and leaving 27 people dead in its wake. The event came to be known to the citizens of Edmonton as Black Friday. How did this all happen and why was nobody prepared? In this episode we are going to look into what was happening weather-wise before the tornado hit, the destruction it caused, and what has been done to understand and prevent something like this happening again.
