Don Quijote, the main character of the book of Cervantes, represents what was important at the time to save Europe from the Ottoman imperium invasion. You need to prepare your own personal army and go to fight; As did Vlad II Dracul, and other historical nobilty. 
To stay in your castle and in your lands just waiting for better times will take you to loneliness, to be disrispected by your own subdits, and to become poor.
Just to go to war using your resources and even asking for a credit, will give you the possibility  after the victory to renegotiate your position, and to point how important your contribute was to Save Europe, their culture and faith. 
Don Quijote waited and lost his chance, he was old, without being old, he was poor having lands and farms, without people to work on them. Then he was  trapped in a dream that became his faith and exit of this sadness that made cloudy his life. He decided to go to war and to fight for goodness when there was already peace, and people with weapons were banned. 
Was a new Europe! And this peace and normality broke all his efforts to have a victory and change his life.
