What would Jesus say to his would-be allies? Nicodemus comes to Jesus as someone who is Christ-curious, but wary of the radical action Jesus has taken in the temple: would it not be possible to have the kingdom without the chaos? And in John 3, Jesus gently shows him that he has come to do something much more radical than Nicodemus has yet realised: we must be born again, and Jesus must go to the cross.
