Home of Tabasco - Avery Island, Louisiana
Avery Island, is not actually an island, but a salt dome, located in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. It is three miles inland from Vermilion Bay, which in turn, opens onto the Gulf of Mexico. A small human population lives on the island, and the island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Avery Island, has its bird sanctuary, exotic plants, and Jungle Gardens, but its best known today as the source of Tabasco sauce. As this salt dome houses the Tabasco factory & museum.
