Artist Activist, Masello Motana talks about what is wrong with our governance systems. She also gives her opinion on the whether democracy is the best governance system for South Africa.
On this interview she also explains the role of art and artists in political activism. Masello is of the firm belief that black people need to stop blaming white people for their hardships and start working towards unity and African governance systems. Her latest work is a street performance where she re-enacts the killing of Mthokozisi Ntumba by police during the recent #FeesMustFall protests in South Africa.
In the play, she explores and questions the power of the state, its role in providing education and the power of the police. Masello is clear about what she wants to achieve with her art but maintains that she can only create work that stimulates our critical thought, but what we do with those thoughts is completely up to us as consumers, as citizens.
She also has a rap artist persona, Cyrilina Ramaposer, where she raps about topical issues in South African politics, check out her latest single Digital Vibes featuring The Crocodiles - https://soundcloud.com/user-523630727/digital-vibes-by-cyrilina-ramaposer-the-crocodiles
