During this holy season of Lent, the most crucial step in your spiritual journey is to truly know yourself—to identify your sins and weaknesses, especially that one prominent vice that acts like a stubborn weed in the garden of your soul. Don’t get overwhelmed by your many defects; pinpoint that main root, whether it’s pride putting yourself first, avarice clinging to earthly goods, or another capital sin. Then, focus your fight! The remedy isn’t just willpower; it’s embracing the opposite virtue, like humility against pride or generosity against avarice. Look to Christ, His Holy Mother, and the saints as your models, imitate their humility and detachment, accept the humiliations God sends to purify you, and remember that without God, you can do nothing.
