Slam the Gavel welcomes Dr. Robert Bauchwitz. Dr. Bauchwitz is a consultant in evidentiary audit and a university lecturer in biology. He has a long background as a scientist handling data and evaluating evidence. In addition, he has been trained and certified as a fraud examiner. He has also been the plaintiff-relator in a federal False Claims Act science fraud case. Dr. Bauchwitz has also personally experienced the serious misconduct that seems to run rampant in the U.S. family courts today.
Dr. Bauchwitz learned an important lesson in graduate school and that was that science was not always an ivory tower of discipline conducted by people devoted to the integrity of the data they were producing. However it was a "business," conducted by people who were self-centered, miserable and very willing to cheat to survive whilst making a large amount of money.
This experience eventually led him to work with the federal government to try to recover grant funds, which had been obtained under false pretenses, based on fabricated and falsified data submitted by scientists at Cornell University and Thomas Jefferson University.
During the federal case, Dr. Bauchwitz began his training as a fraud investigator, and just after the case, he also obtained training as a paralegal, specializing in litigation. Most importantly, his experience with the science fraud case led him in 2011 to start his own fraud investigation firm, Amerandus Research. It was initially geared towards helping whistleblowers and their attorneys investigate their legal cases and keep their communications secure. But as time went on, he found that providing career rehabilitation services was also very important to whistleblowers.
Although Dr. Bauchwitz never envisioned ending up in family court, it was through his more recent experience in that arena that he feels himself being transformed into a whistleblower again. Dr. Bauchwitz spoke of his own family court journey and what he and others are trying to do to improve the widely appreciated problems of corruption in the courts.
