Growing up in the Kurdistan province of Iran Kavan s earllest memories of sport are wrestriling alongside his father and friends . He later became passionate about gymanstics a sport that eventually led him to the world of Judo with the encouaragement of his gymnastics coach.

Kavan arrived as a refugee in the UK in November 2020 and started a new chapter in Glasgow. As a Refugee Athlete Scholarship holder he currently trains with the Scottish team in Edinburgh, and occasionally in Germany Having made remarkable progress in learning English. Kavan is a source of support for other refugee judokas and his resilience and dedication to sports is an inspiration to many
