Hello and welcome to Sinister the true crime podcast where we discuss the nitty gritty details of the worlds most notorious crimes and general mysteries.
In today's episode we're diving into the horrific murder of Julia Martha Thomas at the hands of a woman she trusted into her home to employ as a live in domestic worker or maid. Kate Webster was a career criminal who travelled from Ireland to England to get away from her past crime, only to start back up again and only get worse.
This case was originally known as the Barnes Mystery or The Richmond Murder and one of the most notorious for the time, 1879. The case garnered so much attention that princes from other countries and other well known people came to watch the trial.
This case discusses the brutal way in which Kate attempted to dispose of Julia's body to avoid being caught, including having a skull found in the backyard of non other than David Attenborough's home many many years later. Kate also dressed as her employer, exploring the world of identity theft.
This is such a strange case but it's a story that needs to be told.
I hope you enjoy this episode.
