On episode twelve of She Dreams In Color™ Video Series we talk to Nicole Hawthorne about her Occupation as Co-Founder of Jayla's Heirlooms CEO and Doll Curator. She started a business with her 5-year-old daughter to curate hand-made heirloom dolls by women artisans around the world. The goal of the curated dolls is to show real representation of the children who own them. As a biracial, African-American and Puerto Rican woman, Nicole was frustrated at the lack of quality dolls available to her daughter which reflected their own heritage. In her career journey, Nicole talks about her Obstacle of #ImposterSyndrome, the on-going self doubt, that is both internal and also fueled by discrimination, workplaces that aren't inclusive, and tokenism. Nicole shares the personal work she's done to face self doubt and how she works through it each time it appears. Her company chips away at the lack of representation and has goals to give the women artisans pieces of ownership in the company so they too can build a legacy.
