Ep. 30 - In defense of praying after tragedy

Last week, children in Minneapolis were shot to death in church during a prayer service. Does this mean that prayer doesn’t work? It's an understandable question, and one that should be seriously considered.

Victor lays out the arguments against prayer and then examines what we can learn from the Bible and church history about people dying for their faith. Finally, he talks about what the purpose of prayer is -- and it's not to ensure the person praying has health and wealth.

Parental pause point questions:

1. Why do people pray after tragedy? (1:59)

2. What would you say if your friend made one of those arguments? (7:59)

3. Which of The Great 8 questions would you use in response to these arguments? (9:27)

The Great 8 questions:

1. What happens next?

2. Has this been tried before?

3. Is there a principle involved?

4. What are the trade-offs?

5. What do you mean by that?

6. Is this an appeal to emotion or logic?

7. Am I focused on the speaker or the argument?

8. What does the Bible say?
