Richard began as a recording engineer in 1974 and was a studio designer for A&M Records, RCA, Capitol Records, and a dozen Los Angeles studios where he worked with Frank Zappa, Fleetwood Mac, and Supertramp in the early eighties. Richard produced all the American Zen albums using his old-school analog recording techniques and the mobile Tacoma Studios.
