We've talked about it on several occasions -- the fact that so many film and television productions play fast and loose with fidelity to the source material. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it just raises the question of why they even bothered if it's not going to look anything like the book (or comic, or video game, or...)

Why is it so important, anyway? What's the big deal about staying true to the source material?
