All About Proteins

This episode of Science in the Mall Y'all is all about proteins!

The sequencing of the human genome was completed in 2003, but the ability to sequence DNA was first discovered in the 1970's. While that breakthrough has allowed for huge strides in science, it only scrapes the surface, as the 'control switches' to countless cellular processes are dependent upon protein modifications that are not apparent from their DNA code. Sequencing the proteins would reveal these modifications, as well as reveal additional valuable information. Now, 40 years later, Erisyon is commercializing the world’s first single molecule protein sequencer. Angela Bardo and Jag Swaminathan talk to us about how this technology can transform the way we detect, treat, and track disease, including a more personalized approach.

Guest: Angela Bardo, Ph.D. and Jagannath Swaminathan, Ph.D.

Host: Dan Dillard
