In this reflective episode of 'Scenes from Adulting,' join your host Louisa April as she unravels the profound metaphor of life being a continuous marathon. Running through the landscapes of experiences, she explores the diverse paths we tread, the people we encounter, and the emotions that shape our journey.
In this reflective installment, Louisa shares the profound realization that her beloved sister, residing in Ghana, is running a marathon of her own—chasing demystified tooth fairy tales and navigating a season distinct from her own.
As Louisa grapples with the vast physical and emotional distance that separates them, she opens up about missing Akosua, her sister, and the myriad ways their lives have diverged. The nostalgia for shared stories, midday cuddles, and the bond of sisterhood highlights the complex emotions that arise when seasons of life unfold differently. Welcome to 'Scenes from Adulting,' where I'm your host, Louisa April, and today's journey through the maze of adulthood explores the beautifully intricate layers of love. Join me as we learn how love, in all its forms, is a profound teacher on this rollercoaster of growing up.
As we ride the train of life through different stations, accompanied by the soulful acoustic sounds of Yebba's 'My Mind,' we'll reflect on the way love touches our lives. It's a lesson in itself—how love is never static, always evolving, and never truly leaves us. Instead, it transforms us, making us wiser and more resilient.
I share a poignant poem I wrote in February of 2014 titled 'I Have Written Bibles in Your Name,' and delve into the emotions and lessons of a time when I was in love with a basketball player and danced in a rose garden. LOL. I reflect on how love can transform us and the beautiful, yet sometimes bittersweet, memories it leaves behind.
Throughout the episode, I contemplate the changes and growth I've experienced over the past nine years, and how my perspective on love and self-discovery has evolved.
Love, to me now, is a boundless wellspring, something to be shared and celebrated rather than a singular source of life. It's abundant and beautiful, even in its silence.
I'll also share a moment of missing someone from my past and how it led me to appreciate the love I have now, overflowing in ways I couldn't have imagined. In the end, I've come to believe that giving all of yourself away is the true magic of life, and it's a lesson I'd pass on to my daughter.
So, join me on this journey of self-discovery, reflection, and the profound beauty of love's echoes. Your presence here matters, and I hope you find inspiration and healing in this episode.

In this episode, inspired by Fred DeVito's wise words, "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you," I take you on a personal journey into the world of public leadership.
I'm excited to announce that I'm now a graduate of the Southern African Public Leadership program, a transformative initiative for ethical and innovative young leaders in Africa. But let me tell you, this journey wasn't just about earning a certificate; it was about self-discovery and personal growth.
During the program, we explored transformational learning, internal leadership development, and the profound idea that love is a choice. I discovered the healing power of authentic love and learned to embrace my true self.
We also delved into transactional learning, where I gained skills in public leadership and understanding the interconnectedness of our lives. I was inspired by stories of individuals making a difference, even in the face of challenges.
Finally, we studied systems, acquiring knowledge of political and government institutions. I entered with little knowledge and left with the confidence to influence stakeholders and make a positive impact.
Now, I'm proud of who I've become—more confident, bold, and daring. I may be terrified, but I'm not alone. I'm part of a community of sharp swords ready to step out and raise our war cry.
