Writing Home-Storytellers Cannot Exist In An Apolitical Environment
In this episode of Writing Home, Madhvi interviews Sparsh the maker of Birdsong, painting an intimate portrait of the dying whistled language of the Hmong people in northern Laos, and Lost Migration a three part series on the untold stories of 1947 from other regions and communities in South Asia. Their conversation revolves around making films about lives of people, extractive culture, creative tension and artistic responsibility in a political world. They also touch on what it means to belong and identify or be identified in an individualistic world or what it means to be in a commune with a shared identity where one belongs to their culture and community. This episode also is a tribute to a friend’s school in Darbangha Bihar that solely runs on mutual aid.
