In today’s episode, we’re diving into a different kind of rest. The kind that goes far beyond just getting a good night’s sleep. Inspired by the work of Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, we explore the 7 distinct types of rest we all need to feel truly restored and radiant.

You’ll learn how to recognise the specific types of rest you're missing, how rest is different from relaxation, and why burnout can persist even if you’re technically "resting."

We also touch on themes from The Hustle Cure by Angelica Malin, and explore how rest becomes a radical act of self-reclamation in a culture that equates worth with productivity.

  1. Physical Rest – Passive (sleep, naps) or active (stretching, massage, yoga)

  2. Mental Rest – Calming the racing mind; white space, journaling, screen breaks

  3. Sensory Rest – Reducing overstimulation from light, sound, noise, screens

  4. Creative Rest – Reconnecting with awe, beauty, and inspiration (nature, art, music)

  5. Emotional Rest – Safe spaces for full expression; not having to perform or hold it all
