Successfully escaping from the clutches of the evil Deathtronics, the F.N.G. return to their floating fortress of Laputa. There, they discover that their senior allies have had a run-in with a planes-riffting entity known as Slaade. They know this because Amalzzt is there with them, and he is the 'good' version of Slaade. The senior team also returned with a cursed artifact dagger that yearns to slake its thirst on souls. It slowly starts to turn the group, who depart seeking knowledge on how to destroy it from the fabled city-sized library called the Atlasaneum, or the Great Book.
Unfortunately, our heroes have an evil taint that follows them there, awakening an ancient undead that yearns to be free.
