Empathy Fatigue w/ Laura Vater, MD, MPH

In today's episode we talk to Dr. Laura Vater about her journey in medicine and how she came to be passionate about promoting humanism in medicine and becoming an advocate for physician well-being.

Laura Vater, MD, MPH, is a medical oncologist, writer, and advocate for clinician health. She has published a number of narrative medicine essays, is a member of the Pegasus Physician Writers at Stanford University, and recently completed her first novel. In 2017, she developed a tool to help patients and clinicians prioritize their health (The SMILE ScaleTM). 

Dr. Vater earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Oncology at Indiana University. She was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2018 and is a member of the IU School of Medicine Honor Roll.
