There’s not a great track record with Peter Parker’s girlfriends, but it seems like with Michelle Jones maybe we’ve started to get it right - unless, of course, they fridge her. Join us as we break down the pitfalls of creating a Spider-Man love interest, why Gwen’s death makes us want to scream, and what we think is coming in the next movie.

The Girl Who Waited. Amy's Choice. "Bloody-minded, contradictory, and unpredictable!" In this week's Revenge of the Final Girl, we get into the first Moffat companion, Amy Pond, and break down all the tropes thrown onto her - and talk about how those tropes really aren't well-used or interrogated.

Up this week in our Doctor Who break down, we talk about the human evil that permeates Season 3 of NuWho and the incomparable Martha Jones and how exhausting it must be for her to have to save the Doctor's life all the time.

Last week, we broke down the ways women are most often excluded from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This week, we take a deeper look at the men of Lord of the Rings and the way they don't function with the usual stoicism forced upon male characters. These dudes laugh, love, and actively use compassion and kindness in ways we don't often see. So what exactly got them there? Listen in to hear our thoughts!

What would the Fellowship have looked like if it weren't just nine white dudes??? And where, exactly, is the best place to an expletive to this franchise, if you were only given one?

We're back! Sort of. Just for a brief moment to let you get to know us a little better. Join us as we introduce each other (formally or not-so-formally), and we play a questions game.
BIOS
ROSE attended undergrad at Knox College, where she studied Theatre and Art History. Then, because she's such a smart-pants Ravenclaw, she went on to get her Masters in Acting. She hails from Missouri, where she grew up the oldest of four kids. These days, when she's not working at your favorite independent New York bookstore, she can be found doing spells to bind Donald Trump, re-watching Star Trek for the trillionth time, or sipping a 12% beer really, really slowly. She's an Aries Sun with a Capricorn Moon and a Taurus Rising - which means you should never play a board game with her because if she loses, she'll melt your face off.
SAM, also hails from Missouri, is a witch, an ENFP, and a Slytherin; she's watched The Office probably 40 times all the way through and can quote it at the drop of a hat. She discovered feminism at about six years old, attended an all-girls Catholic high school, and went on to study Theatre and Gender Studies at Knox College, where she met Rose. She's a tour guide by day and a vengeance demon by night - well, kind of - and she kicks back by watching bad movies, singing songs that inevitably get stuck in Rose's head, and building the birth charts of fictional characters. She is a Capricorn Sun, Libra Moon, and Gemini Rising, and she refuses to play board games with Rose.

Now that we're done with Buffy, we decided to take a breather with something light and fun. Join us for a break-down of the 2007 fantasy movie Stardust, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, as we talk about fantasy tropes, gender roles, and how Henry Cavill is apparently just in everything now.
And so we've come to our last episode on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. To commemorate, we've gone for something lighter, answering questions like, "What are the character up to in COVID?" and "What's everybody's astrological sign?" And we'll also briefly explore how Buffy has managed to stay so popular over the years.

*cw: discussions of sexual assault, sexual harassment, generalized misogyny*
After the season 6 episode "Seeing Red," a lot of Buffy fans turned away from the show because of Tara's unexpected death and an attempted sexual assault that shook the viewers in real time - and continues to be deeply disturbing today. But it's not the first time sexual assault has been featured on Buffy, so we thought we'd delve into why this particular scene was so upsetting and why we're over sexual assault as a plot device.
