Ep 58 - Helen Mort - The power of poetry and activism in times of resilience
When we can we use action, and even activism, as resilience? What are the parallels between Helen's own experiences to the subject of her latest biography, Ethel Haythornthwaite?  Helen Mort is award-winning author based in Sheffield. She has published three poetry collections and the novel Black Car Burning, as well as a short story collection and her new book, Ethel, is out now with Vertebrate Publishing, which is a biography of the countryside pioneer Ethel Haythornthwaite. Her first full length non-fiction book A Line Above The Sky was featured in the Guardian and Evening Standard’s ‘books to watch’ lists. She have been shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and Costa Prize and won the Fenton Aldeburgh Prize in 2015.  She appears regularly on BBC Radio and occasionally on TV. She has taught creative writing for over ten years and is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University.  Helen has been a campaigner for a change in the law relating to digitally manipulated images, known as deepfakes, after her own experience of someone using her images, manipulating them, and uploading them to a pornographic site.
