How to Support Your Dog if They're Reactive on Walks and the Mistakes to Avoid

In this episode, I invited behaviourist Angie Cook back to the podcast to talk about reactivity. We chat about why some dogs become reactive or sensitive to other dogs and what to do about it.

Angie explains that our dogs often give us signals that they are uncomfortable well before they get anywhere near an approaching dog. We talk about how to read those signals and respond to them to avoid the reaction in the first place.

We also chat about some of the behaviours that dogs naturally do that we as dog parents would prefer they don’t like rolling in dirt, barking or eating poop. Angie explains how suppressing a dog’s natural behaviours can in some cases lead to reactivity so we need to find a balance between managing behaviours and trying to stop them altogether.

Angie is a certified Dog Behaviourist and a certified Family Dog Mediator with the Dog Door Behaviour Centre in North Carolina.

As always I hope you enjoy this episode.
