Through the Flood: Reporting from Guangfu
When Typhoon Ragasa tore through eastern Taiwan, Irene Lin from the TaiwanPlus climate desk was among the first journalists to reach Guangfu Township — a community left isolated after a natural dam burst in the mountains. Standing in ankle-deep mud beside shattered storefronts and wrecked homes, Irene met residents who invited her in to tell their stories — people who had lost nearly everything but were still offering thanks to rescuers and reporters alike. One moment still haunts her: a calendar frozen on September 23 — the day the flood hit — “as if time itself stopped,” she says. Watch the full feature: “Guangfu Residents Pick up the Pieces as Help Comes In.” Hear the backstory behind a TaiwanPlus report every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on Reporter’s Notebook. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
