Beyond Bridgerton: The Real Lives of Upper Class Women in the Regency Era
Wondering what Penelope Featherington's life would have really been like as a "spinster?" What about newlywed Kate Bridgerton as a married woman? Or how about Lady Danbury as a widow? In our final episode of Beyond Bridgerton we speak with author and historian Charlotte Furness about the real lives of married, single and widowed women in upper class Britain during the Regency period and compare them to their Bridgerton counterparts. We explored what it really would have been like to look for husbands on the marriage mart, live an independent life like ambitious Eloise Bridgerton and how women lived through scandal and heartbreak in Georgian society. Through examples from her book Lady of the House: Elite 19th Century Women and Their Role in the English Country House, Charlotte chats with us about women in history who were instrumental in running estates such as Lampton Hall,  Belvoir Castle and Shibden Hall and reality vs fiction of depictionsof these upperclass women in period dramas and historical fiction. Don't miss this exciting chat as we head into season 3 of Bridgerton!    Check out Charlotte Furness: Website: https://www.charlottefurnesswriter.co.uk/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@CharlotteFurnessWriter   Also, we're now on Youtube, subscribe for more period drama content!   Listen to the Regency Rumours Podcast!
