5 episodes

Populations across the world are ageing rapidly, bringing a range of global challenges to the fore. Now is the time to explore challenges and strategies to improve health and social systems that ultimately impact the function and quality of life of current and future generations of older people.

In the context of the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing and as part of a mission to drive the agenda of the world’s ageing populations, the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) has created the Reframing Healthy Ageing podcast - Interactive Dialogues on the Intersections of Health and Well-being of Older People, in collaboration with Amgen.

This podcast series provides a platform for rich and productive dialogue on the intersecting issues which contribute to the burden on healthcare systems, societies, and individuals. These conversations aim to address the main barriers and challenges on the path to prioritizing healthy ageing and improving the lives of older people.

Join host Dr. Jane Barratt, Secretary General at IFA, along with esteemed colleagues and experts on this series of episodes. You can also find transcripts for each episode and blog posts summarizing the main highlights on the IFA website at https://ifa.ngo/the-reframing-healthy-ageing-podcast-series/.

Episode 2: Prioritizing prevention to advance economies, societies, and longevity
Currently health and social systems are reactionary focusing on “curing” disease rather than prevention, resulting in undue burden on health and social systems. There is a need to re-orient health systems to foster a life-course approach to healthy ageing and shift to a longevity society which harnesses the advantages of longer lives, including economic opportunities and benefits. In this episode of the Reframing Healthy Ageing podcast, IFA’s Dr. Jane Barratt is joined by Prof. Andrew J. Scott, author and Professor of Economics at London Business School, and Prof. Bradley J. Willcox from the University of Hawaii to discuss ageing well, harnessing longevity and the learned perspectives of centenarians.
