In the book " The Thinking and Learning to Think" Nathan C. Schaeffer illustrates various methods as to how to engage the students in productive and experiential learning methods and in that series he has explained how to make pupils think in things and symbols so that it will stick in their mind and also they will enjoy the learning process also. He has told us to get rid of rote learning methods and given the focus on involving the students also in the learning process by asking their experience for anything which they have learned before telling them the actual concepts. In one example he explains it quite well by taking the example of water in various situations like the meaning of water in a glass and on a map.
