Jesus' Death
Reading the Gospel

Jesus' Death
This episode begins with Jesus' cry of abandonment and the subsequent events, including the tearing of the temple curtain, the earthquake, and the resurrection of saints. Jesus' death was not caused by the crucifixion itself but by the weight of sin and separation from God. Jesus' experience of the second death which is complete disconnection from God. The darkness that covered the land during Jesus' crucifixion symbolizes God's presence, not God's absence. The tearing of the temple curtain is the fulfillment of the sacrificial system, signifying that Jesus' death was the ultimate sacrifice, eliminating the need for further animal sacrifices. In the last part, we reflect on the transformative impact of Jesus' death and its meaning for our lives today.
