We are back after a short 12-year break after reading Dune and we sure hope everything is good in the universe and that Paul hasn't caused any absolutely brutal devastation across hundreds of planets!!!
This week we dive into Edric's spice tank to talk about the first half of Dune Messiah!
We catch up with Paul Atreides twelve years into his rule as Emperor and it is starting to feel like maybe he isn't the good guy. Conspiracies abound within the Bene Gesserit, the Spacing Guild, and between Paul's family and friends and Princess Irulan.

We read A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck! A haunting existential novella in which our protagonist, Soren, spends a brief eternity in the afterlife searching for the story of his life.
In this book review episode Travis and Jamie get together once again to discuss the meaning of life, the true punishment of hell, finding meaning in the meaningless, and where you can find the Reading Glasses Book Club book in the Library of Babel!
And of course we had an extended discussion about what foods we would order from the kiosk with during our eons of culinary experimentations!
Drink Recipe:
Just ask the kiosk in Hell for an Afterlife cocktail. It will know what to do.

The Book Club sets down our books and picks up the popcorn bucket for a little movie night!
We catch up with Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy, portrayed by Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, and Andrew Garfield in the 2010 adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's masterpiece. We discuss our favorite parts of the movie and our least favorite things that they changed (aka things that they ruined from this perfect book by making them different in the movie. I'm not bitter.)
Travis finally answers the most important question of all: what will he never let go of?

The first ever Drink Guessing Challenge (sponsored by Intern Paige)
- 3 oz bourbon + Coca Cola in a tall glass
- 3 oz bourbon + fake cola in another tall glass
- Move the glasses around on the table like you are trying to make someone guess which cup the ball is under until Travis and Jamie get too dizzy to remember which drink is which and then make them both drink two double bourbon cokes while they talk about a book
- Ice
