Mental health, ISO 45003 and psychological safety at work

Episode summary

The weight of work-related stress has never been more palpable, with 79% of UK employees experiencing workplace stress regularly. Join host, César Gamio, and former senior psychologist at the Health and Safety Executive, Peter Kelly, to navigate the murky waters of mental wellbeing in the workplace. They tackle the growing concern of stress, anxiety, and depression, discussing the pivotal role of the global standard ISO 45003 and the lasting influence of HSE Management Standards. Peter's insights on psychological safety shine a light on the significance of supportive workplace measures, while offering a reflective look at the legacy of initiatives set forth over two decades ago.

As the workplace evolves, so too does the nature of its stressors. We unpack the shift from physical labor to IT-centric roles, and how technological advancements have introduced new challenges in maintaining mental health and work-life integration. This episode delves into the hard truths about employers' legal responsibilities and outdated attitudes towards stress management, considering how job crafting can mitigate the rising tide of technology-infused work pressures, so don't miss out!
