Peter Beinart is an American journalist, political commentator, and professor of journalism and political science at the City University of New York. He is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times, editor-at-large at Jewish Currents.In his latest book, Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza: A Reckoning, published in January 2025, Beinart examines how Jewish identity and tradition have been used to justify violence in Gaza, urging a moral reevaluation within the Jewish community.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1971, Beinart studied at Yale University and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. He has previously authored books such as The Good Fight and The Crisis of Zionism, and his evolving views on Israel and Zionism have sparked significant debate.
