Queer Yiddishkayt & Yiddish Heavy Metal

Episode 10 // Season 5

A bumper episode with two guests talking about contemporary Yiddish culture! I have a little rant about the importance of speaking Yiddish, even when your Yiddish isn’t perfect, and how grateful I am that so many learners share recordings with me.

Blume talks about Queer Yiddishkayt and a few examples in Yiddish culture. Connect with Blume here: @l.blo0m and check out her Yiddish theatre group here.

Shamma talks about the small genre of Yiddish heavy metal and some of the theories about it. He also made a playlist of some Yiddish heavy metal which you can listen to here. Learn more about Heavy Metal and Yiddishkayt in this article from expert Keith Kahn-Harris.
