Alfred Iporac's Path: Electrical / Energy Engineer

Engr. Alfred Iporac is the former head of Meralco Power Lab. He has also been a familiar face for many Meralco commercials and webinars before, having played the ever credible "Engineer Alfred" who promotes wise energy consumption. After migrating to Canada two years ago, he now works for Hydro Ottawa, an electricity distribution company.

He joins the Project Offbeat podcast to talk about the unconventional career of an electrical / energy engineer and the challenges he faced in upskilling and learning communications as a technical-first engineer. He also shared some unique differences having worked in the energy sector both locally and internationally.

List of questions include:

  • As a technical engineer, how important is it to learn communications?
  • What is the difference between an energy and electrical engineer?
  • Talk to us on how you attained the following certifications: LEED, RME, REM, CEM.
  • What are underrated career paths that you can take with an engineering background?
  • Was Meralco the no.1 option when you first looked for a job?
  • What are the differences in the energy sector locally vs internationally?
