For this episode, the two of us sat down and discuss some current (saddening) news and announcements regarding musicians that we truly admired since our early years of being music fans. We talked about Mark Hoppus' announcement of his battle with cancer; and also shared some stories about the fathers of Midwest emo; American Football in lieu of their drummer and founding member Steve Lamos' announcement of calling it quits from the band.
As we talk about American Football, we reminisce on the depths of our fandom. We sought answers from the myths on how they remain influential, respected, and considered to be one of the most loved musical acts of the (emo) alternative scene from the last 20 years (attested by the cringe-worthy memes).
Most importantly, we shared our top picks from the AF catalog in which Dex, who was lucky enough to catch them perform in Manila (for the first time), gave us a glimpse of his experience as he was graced by the music and presence of these emo gods; singing with fans along a sea of the gloomy and eerie wall of sounds.
PS
With the current social/political climate and with everything happening around us we hope that you are safe and keeping things intact. With the elections getting near we hope to see everyone getting involved, taking a stand, exercising their rights, and keeping things rational. We hope to stay vigilant amidst misinformation and injustices.
