S1E2 | What is Product?

This week Katie demystifies a bit of Product for Chris and they spend quite a bit of time on how Product Managers determine which products and features to build.

This week's discussion comes with three caveats:

  1. For the sake of ease in explaining what Product is, an example of a B2C organization solving a new problem is used - while things like Discovery should be at the start, the process isn't always linear...
  2. The discussion on Product stops at Construction, but that's not where a Product Manager's job or responsibilities end.  In upcoming episodes, additional discussions are coming on Delivery and Go-to-Market and User Feedback.
  3. Product people are some of the most passionate people (Katie included). So some of you may listen to this episode, shake your fist in the air, and say, "she's wrong" or "it doesn't work like that at my company" - whatever it is, you'll have an opinion about it, and that's great!  Listeners need to remember that it's about the principles of Product Management, not necessarily the process.

For those Engineers who have asked a Product Manager, "what do you actually do?" This episode is sure to shed some light for you. If not, drop your questions in the comments πŸ’¬
